The Conference Committee is pleased to provide you with a range of expertly designed post graduate workshop courses to add to your TSANZSRS ASM registration to enhance the education opportunities available whilst you are in Christchurch. Registration fees apply for most workshops, see the detail below. Registered workshop delegates will have the opportunity to move between workshops during the timeslot you have registered for.

FRIDAY 24th March

Interstitial Lung Disease: 2023 Updates For Clinicians And Investigators

Date: Friday 24 March, 9am - 5pm 
Format: Full Day Course
Synopsis:
This course will provide attendees updates and information on:
(a) recent advances in the diagnosis of interstitial lung disease
(b) a multidisciplinary approach for the management of patients with interstitial lung disease
(c) practical considerations of telehealth in clinical care of interstitial lung disease
(d) resources for consumer support and access to clinical trials and research interstitial lung disease
This course will be broadly relevant to all involved in patient care and research of interstitial lung disease, which will be delivered through didactics and panel discussions.

Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing: From Theory to Practice

Date: Friday 24 March, 9am - 12.30pm
Format: Half Day Course
Synopsis: Shortness of breath on exertion and exercise limitation are common among patients with lung disease. However, there are many potential causes of that breathlessness which may be difficult to define, even after resting pulmonary function testing and cardiac investigations. Hence cardiopulmonary exercise testing may be helpful in the diagnosis of breathlessness. This course will cover the theoretical, practical, and interpretative considerations underpinning cardiopulmonary exercise testing. The course will include presentations from international experts and case-based discussions using real-world data.

Screening for lung cancer

Date: Friday 24 March, 9am - 12.30pm
Format: Half Day Course
Synopsis: CT screening for lung cancer – the tide is changing as many jurisdictions are now considering or implementing CT screening for at risk individuals.  This succinct PG course will discuss the key issues in this transition period until broader uptake of low dose CT screening, to enable attendees to better understand the nuances of the data and potential implementation issues for Australia and New Zealand.  Attendees should be prepared to  undertake pre-reading and complete a survey of personal beliefs in order to make best use of the PG course, and its faculty, to achieve expertise in screening and early detection.

The workshop will cover range of topics in respiratory medicine both from a paediatric and adult perspective. The program also provides opportunities for Advanced Trainees on how to get involved in research, overseas fellowship experience and building collaborations. It will be run by senior respiratory physicians and paediatricians, senior advanced trainees, and allied health professionals. Research Skills workshop

Date: Saturday 25 March, 8.30am - 12.00pm
Format: Half Day Course
Synopsis: This workshop will specifically focus on research perspectives across the career path, funding research in partnership with philanthropic organisations and industry, building sustainable collaborations and engaging with communities to build shared research priorities.  An impressive line of up session chairs and speakers will present and take part in interactive panel sessions throughout this workshop with topics to be discussed including a perspective of research across the career, funding and sustaining research with philanthropy and industry, how to network and build multidisciplinary collaborations, and developing shared research agendas with the community.

RACP Supervisors workshop

Date: Saturday 25 March, 9am - 12.30pm

Synopsis: The Supervisor Professional Development Program (SPDP) is a high-quality training program for final year Advanced Trainees and Fellows* who supervise trainees in RACP-accredited positions.
*Overseas Trained Physicians (OTPs) who are actively completing requirements for specialist registration are also welcome to complete SPDP in preparation for supervision in the future.

Pleural medicine: What clinicians need to know in 2023

Date: Saturday 25 March, 8.30am - 12.00pm
Format: Half Day Course
This interactive course will provide participants with an evidence-based approach to the management of patients with pneumothorax, empyema and malignant pleural disease. This will be accomplished using a case-based format with an audience response system and expert panel discussion. There will be ample opportunity to interact with the expert panel and ask any burning questions about pleural disease.
